The Perfect Party Eye Palette

The Christmas Party season is now on it's way where we all get dressed up and made up for the occasion, I love a good glitzy eye palette for the party season to go with my glitter dress or black jumpsuit. Sometimes we spend all our money on some nice new outfits and shoes to go out in and leave little money left for make up. Drugstore eye palettes are now widely available and some of them are just as good as the high end brands.

I picked up Maybelline The Rock Nudes palette from boots for £9.99 but technically got it free as they had a 3 for 2 offer on, this is definitely one of the perfect party eye palettes as it consists of 6 matte shades and 6 glitter shades. There are some neutral colours in there as transition shades and defining the crease and then some darker shades for that smokey eye look and not to mention the beautiful glitter shades which are super pigmented.

The lighter shades definitely need applied a few times to show up but the darker shades and glitter are super pigmented, they are really easy to blend out and apply but I would definitely use an eye primer to ensure they stay put all night long as they do tend to fade within a few hours if no primer is used which is to be expected from drugstore palettes.

The top row of the palette consists of a matte pale creamy white shade, a blue silver shimmer, a lilac shimmer, deep matte brown, midnight blue shimmer, black shimmer

The bottom row has a matte cream base, a matte pink skintone shade, deep purple with slight shimmer, gold shimmer, deep matte purple, matte black

This palette is definitely cost effective and very versatile with the amount of looks you could do with it, my favourite shade has to be the gold shimmer.

Let me know in the comments below what your favourite shade is?

Festive Nutella Cupcake Recipe

Back again with some tasty cupcakes and this time I have a little festive twist to it with some Christmas sprinkles but best of all the icing is Nutella! These were an absolute joy to make but made my stomach grumble throughout because all I could smell was chocolate nutella galore!

Keep on reading to find out how to make these beauts:

You Will Need:

120g Plain Four (Sifted)
140 g Caster Sugar
1 1/s tsp Baking Powder
30g Cocoa Powder
40g Unsalted Butter at room temp.
120ml Whole milk
1 Large Egg
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
Sprinkles
Butter Icing:

150g Unsalted Butter
300g Icing Sugart
1 tsp Vanilla Extract
200g Nutella
2-3 Tbs of Cream or Milk

How To Make:

1) Preheat oven to around 150c (I use a fan oven) and place cupcake cases into a muffin tray

2) Cream your butter in a mixer for 5 mins and then add in your sugar and mix until incorporated

3) Place your sifted flour, baking powder and Cocoa powder in until you get a sandy consistency, now gradually pour in half of the milk and mix until incorporated.

4) Add in your egg, vanilla extract and other half of milk and mix well

5) Spoon the mixture evenly into your cupcake cases and bake for around 10-12 mins

6) To make the butter icing cream your butter until pale and fluffy (usually takes 5-10 mins in a mixer) then add in your icing sugar and mix well until incorporated

7) now add in your nutella with 1 tbs of milk / cream and mix well. Use the rest of the milk or cream as needed, if icing is too hard add more milk.

8) Ensure cupcakes are completely cool before piping icing onto them. once icing has been piped on decorate with sprinkles as desired.

These taste amazing and are surprisingly quite light, let me know in the comments below what your favourite kind of cupcake is?

The Best Setting Powder - Ben Nye

This could be one of the best setting powders I have used to date, I done a lot of research for a setting powder specifically for photography which wouldn't cause flashback or make you look white. Ben Nye Banana powder was up there with one of the best which make up artists use and I can say this is amazing.

With the powder being yellow in colour this helps to reduce any redness and pink undertones as well as blue circles under the eyes. It's a very light powder with a mattifying effect, although the powder is very fine so need to be carefully when opening as it does tend to go all over the place.

Ben Nye isn't as popular in the UK so it's not on a lot of the big beauty sites, I got mine from Amazon as I have a Prime account so may aswell get it from there. You can also get it from Cocktail Cosmetics and love-makeup for around £18 for 42g which is very reasonable and it will last you forever as you only need a little to go a long way.

I can confirm you get absolutely no flashback from this product and it ensures your make up lasts all day. If you have dry skin I would be a bit wary of using this or only in very small quantities as it can have a bit of a drying effect on the skin. My skin is normal / combination and worked well for me, I would imagine it would also work well for those with oily skin.

DIY Charcoal Face Mask

Facemasks are becoming one of the biggest beauty purchases now a days and everyone seems to have a face mask of some kind but have you ever made your own?

You will more than likely of seen the DIY Charcoal face masks going about on YouTube, I have lost count of how many I've watched. I decided I would give it a go for myself so got myself down to Holland & Barratt to buy some charcoal, I bought them in tablet form and just opened them up into a bowl and some PVA glue from my local supermarket.

I mixed around 8-10 capsules with about 2 tablespoons of pva glue into a bowl until it was all incorporated, I made this much as I was also testing it on my husband who has oily skin, larger pores and more blackheads. I tend not to have that many blackheads and have dry skin so I wanted to properly test it on two different skin types.

Result... after leaving them on for about 40 mins they were dry and ready to be peeled off, I peeled my husbands off and there were definitely a few blackheads on the mask it just didn't take out as many as I thought it would but his skin was noticeably better. My husband didn't flinch too much when I was peeling it off but when it came to take mine off.... omg it was effing agony! I have high pain threshold but this was making my eyes go all watery it pulled off every hair on my face and I don't have a lot of hair at all. There were only a few blackheads on it but not much at all, you could see all the fine hairs it had ripped off though!

If you have larger pores and more blackheads I would recommend this as it did work well on my husbands skin but if you don't have that many blackheads I wouldn't bother as it's not worth the pain at all lol!

Life Update & New Workspace

This feels very strange to be typing away on my wee blog again, it's been exactly 3 weeks since I've been gone from my little space on the internet. I think it's the longest I have ever taken a break from blogging in the whole 2 years I have been doing it.

It was my 2 year blog birthday on the 3rd November which I missed unfortunately but I am still so proud to have kept it up.

Where have I been? I just needed a break. from everything. I started a new job not too long ago and it's been super busy, I put so much pressure on myself to keep up with my blog as well as my full time busy job which meant never getting evenings or weekends to myself. I love blogging but there becomes a line where you need to just stop for a minute and breathe!

I've not been that well for about a good year now either, I'm back and forth getting blood tests for an underactive thyroid and also need tests on my heart murmur which has been giving me a huge amount of worry and I've started feeling extremely anxious due to this. One of the symptoms of my health issue is trembling hands, I can tell when it's going to happen and there is nothing I can do to stop it which is causing my anxiety as I know my hands will shake which is extremely embarrassing if it happens when shopping handing over money or typing your pin in, I feel I am being watched and acting suspicious.

However to end on a positive note, I bought myself a little add on to my desk to put some of my cute bits and pieces on it, I've not done a huge amount with it but it's something for me to rearrange and get it just right. I love it! I'm hoping it will give me more space and motivation to get back into the routine of blogging.

I have some fun baking ideas planned and getting ready for the festive season on Gill McLaughlin which i'm super excited for, I hope you are too!
