March Favourites

Hello Lovelies,

I can not believe how fast March has gone! Here's hoping April will bring us a lot better weather.

The following products have been my go-to items throughout March, I will be repurchasing a couple of them! So without further ado read on to find out what I have been loving.

L'Oreal Color Riche Lipstick

The shade I have been using is 256 Blush Fever which is a gorgeous darker pink shade but great for everyday wear. I done a post on these lipsticks a while back which you can see here

Essie Polish

This is in Vanity Fairest which is a nude pink shade, you can apply one or two coats for a very sheer finish or if you build it up to around 3 coats it will be a bit bolder and you can see the shade better. This lasted me quite a while and was my very first Essie purchase! You can see a pic of it on my instagram (instagram.com/mrsgmcx)

Bourjois 123 Perfect Foundation

Shade is Light Vanilla, I have been loving this as an every day foundation and been saving my Mac foundation for weekends - you can read a more in depth review here

MoroccanOil Hair Mask

I got this in the Latest In Beauty, The Glamour Spring Edit I am always a bit like mehh when it comes to some of the hair care you get in the subscription boxes but this has amazed me and I am going to be repurchasing this item. This definitely made my hair so much softer and silkier and certainly not as dry. It's not a miracle worker and all the dryness hasn't gone but it has certainly improved it a lot so I am hoping the more I use this the better my hair will get. Definitely recommend this product

Benefit It's Potent Eye Cream

I have been looking for an eye cream for quite a while now and decided I would pick this one up as I have heard good reviews on it. Overall I love this for moisturising under my eyes and has made them feel healthier. Look out for a more in depth review.

Have you used any of these products? What are your faves for March? Let me know in the comments below.

Sunday Funday: Oreo Cupcakes

Hello Lovelies,

As usual, my weekends contain a lot of baking and this week I thought I would bake some Oreo Cupcakes - how amazing do these look? If I don't say so myself.

I have left the recipe below so you make these cupcakes too

Ingredients:

Cupcakes:
200g Plain Flour
240g Caster Sugar
3tsp Baking Powder
80g Butter (unsalted)
2 medium eggs
2tsp Vanilla Extract
100ml of milk (I used semi-skimmed)
1 packet of Oreo's

*note you can add 40g of Cocoa Powder if you want chocolate sponge*

Butter Icing:
175g butter (unsalted)
350g icing sugar
1tsp Vanilla Extract
1 packet of Oreo's (4 crushed and the rest for decoration)

Method:

1) Preheat your oven to 180 or gas mark 4 and line a muffin tray with cupcake cases, pop a whole Oreo into each case

2) Cream your butter and caster sugar together until it is all smooth then add in your vanilla extract and eggs

3) Sift your flour and baking powder (and cocoa powder if you want a chocolate sponge) and add some of this to your butter/sugar mixture and then some milk and keep adding little bits at a time and mixing until it's all included.
*If you find your mixture is too runny add some flour and if it's too thick add a bit more milk*

4) pour the mixture into the cases (over the oreo's) about 3/4 full and bake for 15 mins turning half way through.

5) While your cupcakes are baking you can move on to making the icing. Crush up around 4 oreos so they are fine crumbs (make sure you don't have big lumps as they will get stuck in the piping nozzle, speaking from experience)

6) cream together the butter and icing sugar, then add in your vanilla extract and crushed oreo's and mix well. Add to piping bag and pipe onto your cupcakes once they have cooled down.

I hope you like this recipe as much as I have! Let me know what you think of these in the comments below.

Bourjois 123 Perfect

Hello Lovelies,

A lot of you will be sat thinking Whaaattt! but this is my first ever Bourjois product I have purchased. Yes. Really.

I could not wait to try this out as I have heard so many raving reviews about this foundation and other foundations Bourjois have. At first, I have to say, I was a little bit like Mehhh It was a bit too red toned for my skin but I stuck with it and finally thought to myself 'I didn't shake this before I used it'. whoops, got a bit too carried away with myself.

Once I have gave this a good shake before use it is totally different and so much better. I feel the more I have used this the nicer it has got and I now LOVE it.

I bought the shade 'Light Vanilla' which is the lightest in the range, I'd say it is still ever so slightly a little bit darker for me but as it blends really well you can't tell that much.

There are 9 shades available in this range, each foundation has 3 colour correcting pigments; Yellow to conceal dark circles, Mauve to correct dullness and Green to neutralise redness.
I haven't noticed an improvement on dark circles with this, I have noticed my skin doesn't look as dull though and as I don't really get much redness I can't really comment if that works.

The formula is really nice, it's not too thick and not too runny and applies really smoothly. You can build this up without it going cakey. I did notice if I ever had a little dry patch it did cling to it a bit more than other foundations I have used.

I really recommend this product, at £10.99 it is great value for money too.

Let me know your thoughts on this and let me know in the comments below what other Bourjois products I should try?

New Maybelline Red Bouquet Lipsticks

Hello Lovelies,

I was having a look around my local Superdrug store at the make up section (Obviously) and this new lipstick collection instantly grabbed my attention.

Firstly, there was a big NEW sign, I mean, what blogger can't ignore new products to try out? Secondly, the shades are perfect for  spring / summer.

There are only 4 shades available in this range; Power Peony, Ravishing Rose, Peach Poppy and Petal Pink. The shades I decided to pick up are Power Peony and Peach Poppy, I really wish I also picked up Ravishing Rose too, it's a really nice red shade which isn't too bright so would be great for everyday wear. Petal Pink was just too intense it was a very pale pink but vibrant at the same time, I am now coming into the wrong end of 20's so not sure I could pull it off.

(Left: Peach Poppy Right: Power Peony)

These lipsticks do last a good amount of time, I do wear a lip liner with mine for maximum use, they also have a nice scent to them! I hope Maybelline release more shades for this range.

Have you tried out this new range? What is your favourite shade?

Love for Essie Nails at just £2.49

Hello lovelies,

So I bought my first Essie polish a few weeks back in the shade Vanity Fairest. I totally fell in love with it as soon as I took one swipe onto my finger nail. I loved it that much that as soon as they started drying I was on my computer searching for more. I came across Fragrance Direct and saw them for £2.49.... Yes, just £2.49! There are great shades available (albeit not a huge amount) but the shades they have are lovely. I am ordering more again! Can't get enough of them.

(From L-R: Vanity Fairest, Muchi Muchi, back in the limo, fifth avenue)

This polish glides on so smoothly and has such a great finish to it, it doesnt leave and hideous stroke marks on your nails - I would say they are perfect! I was a shellac lover as I done my own at home but these have completely converted me back.

Do you use Essie nails? What shades should I try next?

Subscription Box: The Glamour Spring Edit

Hello Lovelies,

I must confess, I almost cried with excitement when this arrived! Firstly, because I didn't know who was delivering it (one of the companies are not good at all) so when my husband said they left it in a safe place I was so relieved and now know I can continue to get this subscription. Secondly, the products - I had already read reviews so knew what was in it. It is amazing! Let me tell you what I got...

Beauty UK high browSuch a cute little compact brow kit, this contains 3 different powder shades, a wax and includes tweezers and a little angled brush for application.

Model Co Cheek & LipsThis is in the shade Just Peachy and is a cream formula which I think I will be using for my lips, might be a bit too bright for my cheeks (swatches below)

Kiko Stick EyeshadowThis is my favourite out of it all - I got this in shade 05 which is a bronzey shimmery shade, swatched it and fell in love. This also states it is long lasting - I certainly believe that and have not even tried it out yet as when I went to wash my hands it wouldn't come off! So excited to try this.

Rimmel Oh My Gloss
I got the shade 130 Purrr...Glossy Cat, this is like a nude salmon pink shade with a hint of glimmer through it. It feels so smooth when applying and doesn't feel sticky at all.

Revlon Gel Nail Polish I love how they have put in a top coat with this - bonus. The shade I got is 320 Full House - It's like a turquoise blue shade (?) very S/S - look forward to using this out.

Nuxe Mask
I have tried Nuxe products before and always like them so was excited to see this face and eye contour mask.

Moroccan Oil Hair Mask
A hair mask for medium to thick dry hair which gives deep hydration and conditioning.

Elie Saab Perfum
A little sample perfume, not my kind of scent, don't know how to describe it but it smells quite musky and perhaps for someone older than me...

For just £16.99 this is amazing as the box is worth £99, you can buy this from Latest In Beauty here

Let me know if you picked this up? Have you used any of these products before?

Smashbox Contour Kit

Hello Lovelies,

So I've been using this Smashbox contour kit for around 4 months now and I love it! It took me a little while to get used to as I had never contoured before and now I can't not contour!

The packaging is lovely, very minimal which I quite like sometimes. It feels very expensive and luxurious and includes a brush. Bonus!. This palette doesn't come in 'shades' it's just a 1 shade (or palette) suits all which I was a bit sceptical about at first but I am really pale and this is definitely not too dark for me. I also fake tan (when I have the energy) and it is still perfect as it's really buildable and blends extremely well.

The size of the pans are a really decent size too and I am no where near through it yet having used it almost everyday for the past 4 months, another bonus!

It also comes with a little guide inside which shows you where to use the contour, bronzer and highlight - this was especially useful for me as a first time 'contourer'?!

I feel it is definitely worth the £35

What products do you use to contour? Let me know in the comments below.

Save or Splurge: Make Up Brush Shampoo

Hello Lovelies,
I always used to use expensive shampoo for my make up brushes as I wanted to ensure I was keeping them as clean as possible and remain in high quality.
Little did I know you could use Baby Shampoo! I started to read more and more blog posts and videos of how everyone cleans their brushes and baby shampoo kept cropping up.
I decided I would try this out as it is not expensive at all and I am now a complete convert! My brushes smell amazing after using baby shampoo and it does the exact same job as a more expensive shampoo. My brushes were still in really good condition too so I no longer have to worry about that!

My bareMinerals shampoo costs £10.00 for a 120ml bottle and my 100ml Baby Shampoo costs £1.10. A massive saving of £8.90!

What do you use to wash your brushes? I am always looking for new ideas and products, let me know in the comments below.

Sunday Funday: Confetti Cupcakes

Hello Lovelies,

My previous (and first) Sunday Funday went down well, you all seemed to love my Daisy Cupcakes, which you can see here.

225g Icing Sugar

3) In a separate jug crack 3 eggs and lightly whisk

4) Gradually fold in eggs and flour (sifted) to the sugar and butter mixture & add in a teaspoon of vanilla extract and hundreds and thousands (as much or as little as you like)

L'Oreal First Impressions

Hello Lovelies,

If you saw my recent post on a Boots Haul that I did, you will have noticed that I picked up some make up items, no surprise there.

To mix things up a bit I thought I would do a 'first impressions' on the L'Oreal products I purchased which were; Infallible Foundation, Julianne nude lipstick, miss manga mascara.

Infallible Foundation - Shade 200 Golden Sand

Packaging is nice, I like the 'squared' bottle foundations, it has a pump which does feel slightly cheap when you are pumping out the foundation but hey it does the job.

Fairly thick consistency and gives a good medium coverage which is buildable without going cakey, the shade I bought myself is probably a shade too dark which is such a shame. It lasted me well all throughout the day, slight fading on the chin but that usually happens to me as I can't stop touching my face!

Overall I would give this a 7/10 (I still love my True Match!)

Miss Manga Mascara

Great packaging, I love the purple metallic lid to it and I love how the lid clicks when it's closed all the way (yeah, things like that please me) The brush is really good too, it's thick at the base and gradually gets slimmer to the end which is great for your inner corner lashes.

Application was ok, I had to work with it quite a bit to separate my lashes but then I usually do with new mascara's. I feel they are too wet if that even makes sense? I like it when the mascara has slightly dried out a little as it doesn't make my lashes clog together. I think once I have used this a few times I will love it

I would give this a 7.5 out of 10

Julianne Nude Lipstick

Love this packaging! It feels extremely luxurious and expensive, I love the gold detail around it and just everything about it!

This glides on really well and is so easy to apply, it is quite a creamy consistency so wont last you too long throughout the day, I have to wear this with a lip liner to get maximum wear out of it. The shade is just a perfect pinky nude shade and it is now one of my all time faves!

I will give this a 9/10

Let me know if you have tried, or will now try any of these products in the comments below.

March Beauty Wishlist

Hello Lovelies,
Yay! We are now into March, I honestly thought February was never going to end, it certainly did not feel like the shortest month of the year that's for sure!
As it is the 1st of March I thought I would share with you on what is on my beauty wishlist for this month. All of these products are fairly expensive so I am only hoping to purchase at least 1 or 2 of them!

Too Faced Primed & Poreless Face Primer
I love trying out new primers and the pink packaging caught my eye on this one, I haven't saw anyone review this - please let me know in comments.
Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick
I see this being raved about all the time and I really want to try this out, hopefully we will have some nice weather in March and it will be a great excuse to buy so I can get the 'bronzed look'
Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation
Again, this is another product that gets raved about - I really want to try this foundation out, it is a bit pricey so we will see what my bank account is looking like first!
Zoeva Brushes
Are these just not the prettiest brushes ever? I have to have them! I just love them.
Benefit Puff Off
Yet again, another raved about product - I really need something to help the puffiness and dark circles under my eyes so would like to give this a try and hoping it does the trick.

Please do let me know your thoughts and share links to any reviews you may have done in the comments below.
Would love to hear thoughts before I start spending those pennies!
